Teaching
What is my philosophy as an educator?
My teaching philosophy revolves around three main tenets:
Fostering student agency
I strive to equip students with the critical thinking, expertise, and resources to answer interesting questions independently—both inside and outside of my classroom.
Creating welcoming, safe environments
Classrooms should be a space of open dialogue, respectful discussion, and connection. As a relationships researcher, I facilitate positive student-student and student-instructor relationships.
Encouraging belongingness in science
Science always benefits from new perspectives and ideas. I hope to create a sense of belongingness for students from underrepresented backgrounds and marginalized communities.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the material! I especially liked the two assignments because it gave us a chance to write and showcase our knowledge outside of the exams and to put the course concepts to practical use.”

“Her upbeat tempo kept me interested and intrigued the entire presentation. For the more [n]itty gritty information she summarized it well so that it was understandable. Her responses to the class questions were also well prepared making it easy to tell she knew what she was talking about.”
-Student at a guest lecture
“I enjoyed the music and your kindness! You were enthusiastic about teaching, which made the class more enjoyable. Thank you!!”
